words from acd; well, the problem with OCs is that there is only one person who knows them and that would be their creator. with canon characters, they have shows, novels, movies — and wiki pages to back them up. even if you aren’t familiar with the canon character, a little research can give you the basic information in order to understand them a little bit better.
OCs don’t have that. therefore, it’s up to the writer to give the information people need to interact. what if your OC has a power and it needs to be kept in mind during interactions ( like if they control gravity or can read someone’s mind! ).
i’m not saying OCs need pages upon pages of information, but they do need to do a little bit more in terms of laying out their character information simply because the writer is the sole source.
still, it should be the responsibility of every roleplayer to lay out enough information for people anyhow! not only does it demonstrate that you’re willing to research and you’re committed, but it helps us folk who have no idea about who your character is understand them a bit better. it just helps make the interactions easier to do! ( you don’t want to accidentally offend someone because of a fact that was never stated! ) some characters need it more than others, it all depends.
