[ PIGEONHOLE ]; J
[ CASEFILE ]; Notes

[ it’s coded, of course, written in holmes’ damn scrawl and reversed latin. ]

there are many ways to approach javert. he is rigid in his character and he seems to have replaced his morals and rules and regulations.

javert is not merely the law’s representative and keeper, but rather the law itself. he has taken a policeman’s job, which is, in short, to uphold the law, and exaggerated in a way that is both tragic and intriguing.

MARGIN: javert walks, a living, breathing, personification of that which he was born. though, aren’t we all like him? is the man born in england not an englishman? and yet is the countryman different from the city man because of their respective places of birth?

    —i feel pity, of course.

my time with my companion has made me soft to hope that there is a good man hidden beneath the rigid frame. logic tells me no, but i strive to say otherwise.

in any case, he is a reliable man. perceptive, oddly so. competent too. he may not be a good person, but he is certainly useful.

MARGIN: and is javert is a friend? i would hope not. i do not intend to allow our partnership to progress past business. however, he is a delight to annoy, so i suppose he serves as a source of entertainment as well.
